  2. In case someone didnt understand the cartoon – prisoners (mostly criminal) in USSR would tatoo Stalin on the chest in heart place to avoid execution by firing squad (soldiers would be afraid to shoot at the image of The Great Leader).

  4. Don’t ask me. If only direct bullet contact with tatoo would be the issue, they could have skinned that piece off, or execute prisoner by single shooting it in the neck or head or sending it to the gallows. But I guess even in very brutal and inhumane USSR system there were some rules of execution (I’m not talking about genocidal war crimes here, but about dealing with criminals). I simply don’t know, but a lot resources about Russian prison tatoos mentions it as a cause.
