NATO lays down the Law to Russia
“I made it clear that NATO insists on full respect of Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. We have long ago taken the decision that Georgia and Ukraine will become NATO members.”
–NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen to Echo of Moscow radio during his first visit to Russia
Last week, the head of NATO visited Russia and spit in Dima Medvedev’s eye. He repudiated Medvedev’s call for a new European security pact, fully embracing the continuing role of the United States in European security, and he openly demanded that Russia release both Georgia and Ukraine to the embrace of Europe both economically and militarily.
The crazed propagandistic lie promulgated by Russia’s KGB dictators that Europe secretly loves Russia and despises the United States were blown to smithereens, right along with the parallel fantasy that Europe will stand idly by and watch a neo-Soviet juggernaut roll back into former Soviet space.
When one considers the vast chasm of military and economic might that separates Russia from the countries of the NATO alliance, a Russia that stands utterly alone and helplessly enslaved to oil prices that the NATO countries control, then one can readily see how devastating the Secretary-General’s comments really are.
It is time for the people of Russia to rouse themselves from their neo-Soviet slumber and realize that their government, which consists of proud KGB spies, is taking them right back down the same road that led to the collapse of the USSR. Russia lacks the political, economic and military power to confront NATO, just as the USSR did but to an even greater extent, and yet it continues to confront NATO anyway. It is pursuing a policy of naked aggression against its smaller neighbors without considering the effect this aggression has on Russia’s reputation and influence in the world, much less upon its economic future as the most powerful nations in the world are forced to mobilize against it.
It is time for the people of Russia to demand that their government being taking care of their needs rather than its own crazed fantasies about “Russian greatness,” fantasies which can only lead to the nation’s ultimate destruction.
