The Beast of Chechnya

It’s almost as if Ramzan Kadyrov, designated and decorated as a national hero of Russia by Vladimir Putin, wants to help us folks here at La Russophobe prove conclusively what an inhuman neo-Soviet monster he is.  Why else, we can’t help but wonder, would he publicly say this about Natalia Estemirova:

She never had any honor, dignity or conscience. Why should Kadyrov kill a woman whom nobody needs?

Yes, he referred to himself in the third person.  Yes, he accused this single working mother who laid down her life for her beliefs of having no honor.  Yes, though she worked tirelessly and selflessly to protect the rights of the defenseless, he said she had no conscience.  Yes, he displayed for all the world his absolute contempt for her, confirming his motive to kill her.  Yes, he ignored her international reputation and many awards for journalistic and human rights achievement, something very few other Chechnya activists can boast of, and still claimed she mattered to nobody — ignoring too the hundreds of newspapers articles that deluged the worldwide media after her brutal killing.

Well, all we can say is “thank you, Mr. Kadyrov.” You’ve made our argument with your own words far better than we could ever dream of doing.  And, of course, the continued support of our maniacal, malignant, homicidal regime by the Moscow Kremlin tells the world all it needs to know about that regime as well.

Radio Free Europe has more analysis of the psychopathic ravings of this bloodthirsty, homicidal maniac who is Russia’s “hero.”

  1. one day the chechen rebels will kill him like his father!!!

  2. GROZNY, Russia (AFP) – Armed men abducted the leader of a human rights group and her husband in the troubled Russian republic of Chechnya Monday, leading members of two other groups said.

“Today, towards two o’clock, unidentified armed men got into the offices of ‘Let’s Save the Generation’ and abducted its leader, Zarema Sadulayeva, and her husband,” said Alexander Cherkasov of Memorial, the Interfax news agency and Moscow Echo Radio reported.

“They have taken them away to an unknown destination. They came back into the NGO’s office and took the mobile telephone and the car of the husband,” he added.

Quite contrary to what the AFP article says, her group works with landmine survivors of Chechnya (not “young people in Chechnya who have been marginalised”, but rather “young people in Chechnya who have been blown-up”).

  3. Maybe “marginalized” is the world Kadyrov uses when he blows up a child.

  4. @Well, all we can say is “thank you, Mr. Kadyrov.” You’ve made our argument with your own words far better than we could ever dream of doing.

It was a typical and actually one of LESS crazy Ramzan Kadyrov interviews – you must be obviously pretty new to the Ramzan watching to be so much impressed by this one.

Mind you, this is a guy who really didn’t have any education beyond a few classes of elementary school (he didn’t finish all of them).

This is also a guy who likes to enjoy himself by torturing people personally.

    • A 3-part doc/interview with Ramzan (French TV) – Estemirova also speaks:

    • About Ramzan’s way of talking (and behaving), from Prague Watchdog:

Ramzan Kadyrov has long been one of the most popular characters on the Russian-speaking Internet, where he has become established less as a real figure than as an exotic form of speech. The absurdities, stupidities and monstrosities with which he constantly regales his grateful fans consistently draw avid attention. LiveJournal users reproduce the leader of the Chechen Republic’s statements, adding detailed and malicious commentaries of their own. They laugh at his incoherent speech, they worry when he utters his not invariably clear but always threatening words, they curse, swear and giggle. It’s a rare bird that gives Kadyrov a tender glance, but that does occasionally happen, it cannot be denied.

Yet despite all the horror stories that are circulated about him, Kadyrov has not grown into a genuine monster. The denizens of the Russian-language Web see him as a crooked little figure from the comics, a perversely gifted teenager who goes around wearing a sheet and pretending to be a wicked ghost. The fact that there are fresh bloodstains on the sheet is of little concern to the Internet. The inhabitants of the virtual world are cynical and don’t consider it necessary to open their doors when reality knocks on them.

Without being aware of it, Kadyrov gives a hundred reasons to serve as a target for the ridicule of bloggers and forum posters. But his tongue-tied awkwardness is only a secondary problem – the main one lies elsewhere. Kadyrov is terribly out of touch with fashion. He comes across as an example of the hopelessly outdated style of behaviour which was current on factory housing estates in the 1990s. These people had their own uniform — a shell suit made in China and a crimson jacket for appearances in public. They died in their thousands in illegal wars and drunken fights, poisoned their livers with cheap alcohol, and queued up to fill the prisons and labour camps.

Ramzan Kadyrov is a reflection in two mirrors – in one as the original, and in the other as a parody of himself.

  5. Two police, militant die in south Russia shootout

MOSCOW (Reuters) – Two Russian policemen and a militant were killed in a shootout in the North Caucasus region of Dagestan on Monday, Itar-Tass news agency reported.

Three gunmen opened fire on policemen who stopped their car in a rural area to check documents, the agency quoted a police source as saying.

As security in the neighbouring republic of Chechnya has improved, instability has worsened elsewhere in the mainly Muslim North Caucasus and attacks against authorities by Islamic insurgents have increased.

Analysts say deep-rooted corruption and widespread poverty push many young men to join the ranks of insurgents.

    • @Two police, militant die in south Russia shootout

That’s overnight in Dagestan. In the morning:

Bomb blast kills Russian border guard in Dagestan

MAKHACHKALA, August 10 (RIA Novosti) – An explosion caused by a road-side bomb killed one border guard and wounded another in Russia’s North Caucasus republic of Dagestan, a local Interior Ministry official said on Monday.

“The incident occurred on Monday morning in the town of Derbent [the second most important city of Dagestan, close to the Azerbaijani border],” the source said.

“The bomb exploded when an UAZ patrol car carrying border guards was moving along Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya street,” he said.

  6. “one day the chechen rebels will kill him like his father!!!”

yes, Basayev took responsibility for killing Akhmad Kadyrov. But rumors goes, that when talking among his closest persons, Ramazan puts blame for his fathers death on Russian FSB.
The theory goes, that Maskhadov was ready to surrender, officialy transfering all power to Kadyrov, thus ending all inter-Chechen fighting. This scenario seemed no good for Russians and FSB killed senior Kadyrov.

  7. What else would you expect from a filthy Chechen barbarian warlord? There is not one RUSSIAN who considers this savage to be a hero, make no mistake about it. The real heroes, who are respected by the PEOPLE, are the 84 Псковские Десантники; combat officers like Arakcheev and Budanov.

Its like President Obama’s awarding a Presidential Medal of Freedom to former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Mary Robins. But in reality REAL Americans could give two sh..ts, its people like Lt Colonel Jeffrey Chessani that they consider to be heroes.

  8. “What else would you expect from a filthy Chechen barbarian warlord? There is not one RUSSIAN who considers this savage to be a hero, make no mistake about it. ”

Well it’s Russia which doesnt want Chechnya to be headed by some intelligent ex-Soviet military officer (like Dudayev and Maskhadov). Instead of supporting people like those and just helping them rid off islamist warlords, Russia makes all that power to be given to some savage thug and all North Caucasus to be turned into radical islamist breeding ground. Truly barbaric and idiotic politics.

    • ttc: AKM’s “real hero” is Budanov (officially “insane” alcoholic rapist-murderer). And you are discussing Maskhadov with him.

      • “ttc: AKM’s “real hero” is Budanov (officially “insane” alcoholic rapist-murderer). And you are discussing Maskhadov with him.”

oh yes, we need to add Shamil Basayev to the list as real hero of Russian people, at this case. It’s him, who helped Russian friends Abchkazians to get freedom from evil Georgian imperialists.

        • You know, Abkhazians are now not merely “Russian friends”. They are now “Russian citiziens”, who ought to be financed by the real Russians in Russia and the Russian soldiers have to spill their blood for them.

          • Abkhazia is very independently independent now.
But they are not so independent as South Ossetia, because the don’t have Russian KGB officer as their president and other Russian officers in their government. Also, Abkhazians are kinda bit stupid. They don’t understand that highest form of independence in the world can be achieved only by entering Russian Federation completely, like South Ossetia wants.

            • LOL, good comments ttc & Robert.

            • The intersting thing is that in terms of residing in the south Caucasus, Ossetians are newcomers.

The first inhabitants of the area now known as “South Ossetia” were Georgians, Tshkinvali is a Georgian name, meaning “place of the Hornbeam” and dates to around the 1st C AD.

There was some influx of Ossetians in the 12th/13th C AD, but they were a very small minority. A second and larger influx occured in the late 17th & early 18th C, but once again Georgians were the majority.

Russian documents of the 19th C refer to the area as “Upper Shida Kartli”, the term “South Ossetia” does not begin to be used until the late (1880’s/1890’s) 19th C when the Russians started to settle large numbers of Ossetians in the highlands. It was not until the 1960’s that Ossetians became a majority in Tshkinvali.

The intelligentsia of the South Ossetians understood this fact well, unfortunately their voices were drowned out by the KGB mafia that had been put in place in the province by Moscow.

““I would like to be unbiased and clear up whether there were some hasty, senseless activities of Ossets, who intensified the contradictions through provocation. I would also like to say such events took place then. I mean declaration of sovereignty, which was fully orientated to Moscow with the prospect of uniting South and North Ossetia in the future. Aspirations of South Ossetians to join their Northern tribesmen can be understood from the human viewpoint. However, from the geopolitical viewpoint it is a mistake.

The main Caucasus Ridge is a natural border between Georgia and Ossetia and any efforts of removing this border will cause permanent conflicting situation between Georgians and Ossets. To restore traditional friendly relations, first of all, the talk should stop on separation of Ossetia from Georgia. No authorities of Georgia will agree with this. And they will be right, because this will mean violation of Georgia’s territorial integrity…Who wants peace between South Ossetians and Georgians, should reject for ever the idea of South Ossetia’s joining North Ossetia. Who wants peace between Georgia and Russia, should also put this idea aside. This is the reality”.

              VASILII ABAEV,
              famous Ossetian professor, renowned scholar

Russian scholars felt the Ossetians were immigrants too.

Well-known Russian scholars G.Chursin, V.Pfaf, N.Dubrovin, L.Zagurski and others consider Ossets to be migrants from North Ossetia to Shida Kartli. In G.Chursin’s opinion, “On the territory of South Ossetia Ossets are comparatively newcomers. There lived other peoples there, which preserved memories about themselves in geographic names of many places”2. This opinion is also shared by Prof. V.Pfaf: “All the Transcaucasian Ossets remember that they migrated from the north”3. Both G.Chursin and V.Pfaf consider Ossets to be newcomers to Georgia, which migrated there mostly in the XIX century. As for the opinion of Acad N. Dubrovin, he is well aware that there existed no South Ossetia and he mentioned about Southern Ossets as “the so-called”. He wrote: “Due to lack of agricultural land plots, a part of Ossets migrated to the southern slopes of the Main Caucasus Ridge…Occupying the gorges of the rivers of Didi and Mtsire Liakhvi, Ksani and its tributaries, Ossets became serfs to the princes Eristavis and Machabelis. Just these migrants are the so-called SouthOssetian population”4. It is clear for an expert in the Caucasian studies that North Ossetia is a historical home country of Ossets: “Autochthonic Ossetia
is located on the northern slopes of the Caucasus Ridge”5.

  9. ttc you’re absolutely right. Kremlin politics are idiotic. Ichkeria along with other goat-herding regions should be given independence. All the goat-herders need to be deported out of Russian land. Cossaks need to be returned to their ancient lands in the plains of the Caucases, up to Terek. All regions that historically belonged to ethnic Cossaks need to be reinforced. Israeli consultants should be contracted to build a wall separating savages from the civilized world. No one gets in.

    • “Ichkeria along with other goat-herding regions should be given independence.”

Dream on. Russian government has no deal with such crap as pro-European Ichkerian democracy, it only do awesome politics, like giving power to criminal thugs who openly don’t give sh*t about Russian law, and breeding more and more radical islamist militants in it’s teritory.

“Israeli consultants should be contracted to build a wall separating savages from the civilized world.”

Since Kremlin favors islamists like Hezbollah more than Israel, it’s more likely that Russia will ask help from Hezbollah consultants to train more islamic suicide bombers in North Caucasus.

  10. Activist found dead in Chechnya

The head of a Russian charity and her husband have been found dead in Chechnya a day after their abduction, activists and officials said.

The bodies of Zarema Sadulayeva and her husband were found with gunshot wounds in a car boot near the Chechen capital, an interior ministry official said.

Armed men seized the two on Monday from the offices of Ms Sadulayeva’s charity, Let’s Save the Generation.

The case follows July’s abduction and killing of activist Natalia Estemirova.

On Tuesday, Alexander Cherkasov of the Memorial human rights group was quoted as saying that Ms Sadulayeva’s body and that of her husband had been found in the Chernorechye suburb of the Chechen capital, Grozny.

Let’s Save the Generation supports children affected by violence in war-torn Chechnya.

The southern Russian republic was the site of years of war between local separatists and Russian forces in the 1990s.

Ms Estemirova was a prominent campaigner who had been investigating human rights abuses in Chechnya for Memorial.

She was found dead shortly after being bundled into a car outside her home in Grozny. Her killing provoked an international outcry.

Memorial’s chairman has accused Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov of involvement in her death.

In a radio interview last week Mr Kadyrov denied the accusation, but denounced Ms Estemirova as person “without honour, merit or conscience”.

In recent years many of Mr Kadyrov’s most prominent critics have been shot dead, including Ms Estemirova and investigative journalist Anna Politkovskaya.

He denies any involvement in their murder.

  11. Well, you dirty russian Kafirs want back northern Chechnya up to the Terek? Then come and try to take it back! My president Kadyrov has 30.000 soldiers and we will kill all russian cossack-pigs who try to seize a single inch of Chechnya,ALLAH AKBAR!!!

    • Schizophrenic much lately, eh “Kadyrov-fan” (aka “ahmed”, “sascha”, etc.)?

But I’m in a good mood today, so here’s a tip:
Try changing your style of writing at least a bit when picking up another personality the next time.
      Cheers!

      • I think, having several nicknames and supporting 3 different political worldviews of radical islamists, pro-Russian Kadyrov and pro-Western Georgia at the same time is pretty easy mental disturbance. After Russians commiting so much war crimes in Chechnya, it’s no wonders that some of it’s inhabitants psyche may be affected.

        • You know tcc, he[?] once threatened to murder me over the Internet as I’m allegedly “pro-Russian [various expletives]”. I thought it was pretty funny.

  12. jessica, how about taking holiday in Kadyrovs Chechnya?
After witnessing such exciting touristic features as kidnappings of human rights defenders, shooting innocent people in the cars, burning down houses of guerilla parents and islamic militants blowing thesleves up, you can easily get rid of feelings of guilt and fear after praying with Kadyrov in biggest mosque in Europe and wash away physical dirt of blood and ashes in new water park in Gudermes, which opened this July.

  14. robert is a funny guy,he always claims, that many persons operate under the same nick, what a nonsense. Please compare the mails of Akhmad and “Kadyrov-fan”,and Sascha as well. Kadyrov-fan is a Kadyrov-supporter,Akhmad a fierce Kadyrov-enemy! How can they be the same persons? Please show us proofs for your conspiracy-theories,Robert!!!

    LA RUSSOPHOBE RESPONDS:

This commenter has the same IP number as “Kadyrov-fan”

Please stick to one name, sir, or we’ll have to ban you.

  15. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/12/world/europe/12chechnya.html

these two human rights activists will be forgotten in two weeks and no one will punish Kadyrov for this new murder,do you agree? i am sure, that nothing will happen

  16. http://www.newsru.com/russia/11aug2009/ahmedilov.html

and look here,in Dagestan this morning a journalist was killed! Allegedly he wrote a lot of critical reports about Kadyrov recently. It seems, that Kadyrov´s death squads are operating all over the world,so far there were Kadyrov-murders in Chechnya, the whole Caucasus, all over russia,in Vienna,Turkey,Dubai,Kazakhstan etc……..

    • Okay “sergio” (let’s call you this way), you are somewhat redeeming yourself by posting valuable stuff sometimes.

They say here in Russia her husband was a former “freedom fighter, a rebel or what you call them released from FSB jail. Most probably this is just another “blood revenge” case which is quite normal in those parts. Kadyrov-fan, Akhmad, Sascha could easily confirm this.

There’s another question still being uncoverd in the Russian media ->Who’s been funding their NGO? Were they spending their own savings supporting it?

    • @They say here in Russia her husband was a former “freedom fighter, a rebel or what you call them released from FSB jail. Most probably this is just another “blood revenge” case which is quite normal in those parts.

And that’s why they killed his wife too.

And that’s why they kidnapped and killed the group’s previous leader (and his assistant) during a “mopping-up” in 2005.

@There’s another question still being uncoverd in the Russian media ->Who’s been funding their NGO?

      UNESCO and landmine foundations.
